Biomes of the World

Page history last edited by L. Eddington 14 years, 7 months ago

What is a biome?

A biome is a region in the world with specific animals and climate.  Some examples are jungles, forests, and deserts.  Listen to a girl named Rain explain biomes in the clip below.

Types of Biomes

There are many different kinds of biomes on Earth.  Terrestrial biomes, or biomes on land, include ice caps, arctic tundra, alpine tundra, taiga, deciduous forest, rainforest, grassland, tropical savanna, chaparral, desert scrub, and desert.  Aquatic biomes, or biomes in water, include streams/rivers, lakes/ponds, wetlands, estuaries, intertidal, coastal, coral reefs, oceanic pelagic, and abyssal.
